“Vasu Arul Miller came into the world way too early on April 30, 2023, at just 30 weeks and 6 days at 7:30am. His journey began with a scary moment when I couldn't feel him move from the Friday before his birth. I tried everything under the moon from ice to ice cream. Rushing to the hospital at 6:30am, they discovered his heartbeat dropping fast, leading to an emergency c-section with me being put under. The NICU Dr at Tripler Army Medical Center told us he was minutes from being a stillborn and the c-section that was preformed was the fastest one he’s ever seen.

Our little Vasu faced a tough start, hooked up to machines, and dealing with a serious brain bleed (grade 3 and 4). The doctors talked about the need for a shunt, Gtube, and lifelong help with breathing. They asked us if we wanted to do comfort care. But we said no, we chose to trust time and faith instead of giving up.

They moved him to a special hospital in Hawaii ( Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children ) with top-notch doctors, nurses, and a neurosurgeon . Many tests, blood transfusions, and months passed, but Vasu slowly got better. Finally, on July 3, 2023, we took him home with just a bit of oxygen, defying the expected surgeries.

We since than have moved to Pittsburgh, PA from Oahu Hawaii. Today, at 8 months (6 months adjusted), Vasu is thriving. No oxygen, no shunt, and he's doing well with feedings. We are working closely with early intervention but he is meeting his adjusted milestones.
