30 Days of Brave | Cassady

“When I think about bravery I think about our 59day NICU stay. I think about the longest 24hrs of my life; healing from an emergency c-section in my hospital bed waiting to meet my baby (thanks to IV mag), who was taken straight to the NICU from the OR. I think about our tiny but mighty 32weeker in her isolette.

Bravery is learning to care for and hold your baby whiling managing the wires on their tiny body. Bravery is trusting the nurses and doctors to take the best care of your baby when you couldn’t be there. Bravery is taking it day by day, some days harder than others. The NICU is very overwhelming at first, bravery is learning to ask questions and advocate for your baby. Bravery is waking up to pump in the middle of the night while wondering if your baby is having a good night in the NICU. Being brave is walking out of the NICU without your baby in your arms. Bravery is accepting that no baby is the same and your baby is allowed to have their own timeline.

When I think of bravery I think of the love and support our families and friends provided us. I think of the doctors, nurses, and all of the NICU staff that we will forever be grateful for!

Bravery to me is being a NICU family, and being proud of our journey and sharing our story.

To me bravery is our daughter, a healthy and happy 14month old that continues to be brave every single day! “ NICU Mom, Cassady
