30 Days of Brave | Tommy
“I know bravery because it’s my job… literally.
My son was a 33 weeker in the very same NICU that I now work in.
By what I can only describe as divine intervention, I was able to get a position at the hospital and eventually took over for the social worker who helped me back in late 2021 doing those 25 days for Tommy. I wanted to visit those who took care of him, but I found myself feeling physically ill the closer I got to the pod he was in. Now (for the most part, because I still have my moments in real time) with some talk and immersion therapies, I get to help families in the NICU not feel so alone. I get to help them advocate for themselves and their babies. I GET TO!
Bravery in the NICU is facing it head on to make the uncontrollable feel just a bit lighter for other families like mine.” NICU Mama & Social Worker, Megan
